If it’s one thing I like to do, It’s shop. I have built a diverse wardrobe that works well for my body type and personality. Whichever mood I am in, I can put together a look expressing that.
If I am in a negative space you would never know because I don’t look the way I feel.
At some point my shopping became an addiction. It was bigger than building an Intentional wardrobe. It was driven by emotions if I was happy, sad or angry, I ran to shopping.
It gave me a high that I couldn’t explain. The excitement I felt when I heard the delivery truck even if I knew it wasn’t for me was such a rush.
But once I received my items they would get thrown into a pile and the rush was gone. It would be weeks before I would wear any of it. All while more items were coming in.
I would go from excited to overwhelmed because of the clutter. This cycle continued for years, I ran up credit cards. I have accounts through Klarna and After pay that I would be paying on for months. Once my balance was zero, I was back at it again.
Until I woke up one day, looked around and realized this had to end. I couldn’t save, I couldn’t do the things I truly wanted to do because of things. I hit rock bottom.
Frustrated and dejected I came up with a plan. I had to go cold turkey. I had to challenge myself or I was going to be in debt and depressed forever.
I had to get real with myself, I’m 41 no real savings, I don’t own a home or land and I never been on a plane. I was annoyed.
This No Spending Challenge has to work in order for me to meet my goals for 2026.
